Stay Tuned...

Hellooo to all our loyal and dedicated Naitika followers! How have you been? It’s been a while since I posted something on here.

As some of you know I have been working up in Leicester for the past two weeks with the young people of the Shree Rajput Bhoiraj Gnati Samaj UK. We have had everyone from aged 10 right up to people in their mid twenties attending.

Last week they learnt about landfills and the environment. The group realised the positive impacts recycling old clothes can have on the planet we all live on. They were shocked to hear 1.2 million tonnes of clothes had ended up in landfill and were now sitting there, releasing methane gas and harming our world.

Eager to do something about this the group got to work with Traid’s designer, Inkeri. She showed the group how easy it was to turn a simple polo shirt into an extravagant cropped jacket. The young people took inspiration from this and soon started on their own designs with the clothes they had brought with them. There were some interesting creations using sarees and ribbons.

This week they really got their teeth stuck into learning about the supply chain and really understanding how brands are able to get away with using cheap labour. They even had two sessions with the incredibly creative Shane Solanki.

He had them singing about ping pongs and showed them how to feel the words they were saying and how they could use thier body to create shapes which communicate the message of ethical fashion.

This youth group are looking to put on one of the biggest Naitika performances we’ve had. Visit the blog regularly and you will find out when and where, to come and watch the Shree Rajput Bhoiraj Samaj strut their stuff and share with you their message of recycling and refashioning through performance art.
